Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization - as the last line of our Mission Statement points out - "Volunteers are the heart and soul of our agency. Our programs succeed because of our volunteers." Plainly stated, our programs would not be to the quality they are without the help and support of our volunteers. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
MEALS ON WHEELS
Volunteers are needed to deliver hot and frozen meals to the client's home. Meals are delivered up to 4 days per week at noon. The time commitment is approximately 2 hours per day.
TRANSPORTATION
Volunteer drivers are required to provide long distance and local transportation for eligible clients to medical, dental, therapy appointments and essential shopping. Drivers are reimbursed for their mileage. The time commitment is variable depending on appointment location and number of drives.
SERVICE ARRANGEMENT/COORDINATION
This service offers an individual worker to help with cleaning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, and a whole lot more! It operates on a brokerage model. Community Care for South Hastings recruits the service provider (does reference & police check) and then provides their name to clients who need the service. Fees are negotiated at a reasonable rate between client and service provider. The time commitment depends on the job/service being provided.
VISITING - SOCIAL AND SAFETY
TELEPHONE REASSURANCE/SECURITY CHECK
Volunteers are needed to make regular calls to clients who are housebound or isolated. The purpose of the call is to provide friendship, reassurance and a safety check to clients in need. Calls may be arranged on a short or long-term basis. The time commitment varies.
FRIENDLY VISITING
A volunteer visitor is needed to visit a client on a regularly scheduled basis to provide friendship and support. The volunteer may read to the client, write letters for them, visit over a cup of tea or go for a walk with the client. The time commitment is 1 hour per week.
SOCIAL AND CONGREGATE DINING
Hot, nutritious dinners are provided to clients in four different communities within our service area. Volunteers are needed to provide transportation to clients, to assist with set-up and clean-up, and to assist with cooking and food preparations. The time commitment is approximately 1-3 hours per dinner.
ACTIVITY PROGRAM
This program is offered in Belleville once a week, and in Deseronto once a month. Volunteers are needed to provide transportation to clients, and to assist with activities (games, crafts) and provision of refreshments. The time commitment is approximately 3 hours per program.

As a volunteer providing service to clients of Community Care for South Hastings, you can expect that:
1.You will be treated with dignity and respect.
2.You will have the support of other volunteers and paid staff.
3.You will be given a suitable assignment with consideration for personal preference.
4.You may request help if a job is too large or strenuous.
5.You will receive orientation when starting the position and on-going training to update and refine your skills.
6.You will receive guidance and direction.
7.Your supervisor will address your comments and concerns regarding working conditions or clients.
8.You will be heard, have a part in planning, and be shown respect for your opinion.
9.You will be appreciated and recognized for your service.
10.Your personal information will be kept confidential.
11.You will work in a safe environment.
12.You may refuse to do any task that you feel to be unsafe.

OPPORTUNITIES (CONT'D)
FOOTCARE (Deseronto Only)
This service is provided to clients in the Deseronto area by the Victorian Order of Nurses. Volunteers are needed to greet clients and assist the coordinator with the registration process. The time commitment is 1 morning per month.
COMMUNITY CARE CLOSET (Deseronto Only)
Volunteers are needed to work in the Community Care Closet in Deseronto throughout the year. The store is open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Donations may be dropped off at the office in Deseronto, or for your convenience, small donations may be dropped off at the Belleville office. GRANDFRIENDS (Deseronto Only)
Grandfriend volunteers share a special skill with elementary school children each fall and spring. Skills and activities include: knitting, painting, sketching and scrabble. The time commitment is 1 afternoon per week per session.
ADMINISTRATION & FUNDRAISING
Volunteers are needed to help out with reception on an occasional basis. Volunteers are also needed to be part of the Board of Directors. Duties include developing policies & procedures, organizational governance and fundraising.
Volunteers are also needed for fundraising projects (Christmas Wrap fundraiser at Quinte Mall during the month of December, and Bus Trips).
All interested individuals and groups must be willing to complete a registration process and police screening in order to be accepted as a volunteer in Community Care for South Hastings programs.
